Code of Conduct
This Code of Conduct establishes the ethical, professional, and institutional standards expected of all members, employees, volunteers, consultants, and representatives of the Law Protection Organization (LPO). It shall be interpreted and applied consistently with the Constitution of LPO and applicable law.
Diversity
LPO respects diversity and equality and shall treat all members, staff, volunteers, partners, beneficiaries, and participants fairly and without discrimination based on ethnicity, race, national, religion, political opinion, gender, social background, disability, or any other status.
International Law Obligations
LPO shall conduct its activities consistently with applicable national law and international human rights law, international humanitarian law, and relevant principles of international criminal law. Members shall promote respect for international justice, human rights, and human dignity.
Academic Duties
Members engaged in research, teaching, training, or publications shall maintain academic freedom, intellectual honesty, professional competence, accurate citation, respect for evidence, and independence of scholarly judgment. Research shall be conducted responsibly and ethically.
Responsibility
Every member shall perform assigned duties with diligence, dedication, professionalism, and accountability; respect colleagues and lawful organizational decisions; protect LPO’s property and resources; and contribute constructively to the Organization’s objectives.
Cooperation beyond Boundaries
LPO shall encourage respectful cooperation with national, regional, and international institutions, civil society organizations, academics, legal professionals, and other partners, while maintaining its independence, non-political and non-partisan character.
Human Rights and Dignity
All LPO activities shall respect human rights, equality, human dignity, and the rights of victims. Members shall not engage in conduct that violates or undermines the dignity, safety, or rights of any person.
Transparency and Accountability
LPO members shall act openly and responsibly in organizational affairs. Financial resources, organizational property, decisions, and activities shall be managed and documented in accordance with the Constitution and applicable laws.
Truthfulness and Legality
Members shall act honestly, provide accurate information, respect evidence, and comply with applicable laws, the LPO Constitution and lawful organizational decisions. No member shall knowingly misrepresent facts or use LPO’s name for an unlawful purpose.
Integrity
Members shall maintain the highest standards of professional and personal integrity and act in the interests of justice and the public interest. LPO’s position, name, resources, information, and reputation shall never be used for personal benefit or improper advantage.
Conflict of Interest and Misuse of Power
Members shall disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest that may affect their impartiality. No member shall use their position, authority, access, organizational resources, or information for personal, financial, political, or other improper benefit, or to improperly influence another person.
Sexual Harassment and Sexual Misconduct
LPO maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment, sexual exploitation, sexual abuse, and other forms of sexual misconduct. All members, employees, volunteers, consultants, and representatives shall respect the dignity, privacy, and personal integrity of others and shall refrain from any unwanted, inappropriate, or abusive sexual conduct. Abuse of authority, position, or influence for sexual purposes is strictly prohibited. Complaints shall be treated seriously, confidentially, impartially, and in accordance with applicable law and LPO constitution.
Compliance with this Code is a condition of participation in LPO activities. Violations shall be addressed fairly and confidentially in accordance with the LPO Constitution and applicable law.
